about us

We are a student-led group raising awareness on the interconnection between the built environment and climate. We aim to educate about the changes needed to direct the built environment education in Manchester towards a more sustainable and balanced future!

Our group was formed at the beginning of the academic year in 2020, as a result of a group of Manchester School of Architecture students attending a Climate Literacy Workshop run by TRADA. We got inspired by hearing about how students can participate in creating the change needed in the profession and decided to set up our group to push the university to embed sustainable principles in the curriculum. We would also like to keep the MSA accountable to take action and educate ourselves about the field of sustainable design and help our peers to do so too.

We believe students have the power to act, and that our profession needs both top-down and bottom-up pressure to achieve a systemic change, thus we must also play our part. For everything we do, our final goal is to learn and to help create an environment where all students who will be studying at MSA after us can gain adequate knowledge to enact responsible design in the twin crises of climate and ecological breakdown.

OUR TEAM

The MSSA CAG is made up of members with varying backgrounds and experiences all of which bring valuable perspectives to the issues at hand. Awareness and problem-solving stand at the core of our group. Driven by those principles we aim to educate both us, as members of the group, as well as our diverse student body and staff on topics and issues related to sustainability and climate change.
